Who Serves on the Governing Body?

Highfields Primary Academy Governing Body

Details of the Governors who served in the 12 months from 1st September 2024 to September 2025 are as follows:

What does the Governing Body do?

The main role of a Governing Body is to provide strategic leadership and be a critical friend to the Highfields Primary Academy. The day-to-day operation of the school is the responsibility of the Senior Leadership Team, nevertheless, the Governing Body challenges the Senior Leadership to ensure the continued progress and attainment of all pupils; efficient and effective use of finances and effective performance management of staff.
Our three core functions are:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
  2. Holding the headteacher to account for educational performance and staff management.
  3. Overseeing the school’s financial performance to ensure money is well spent.

How many Governors are there?

We have 11 Governors, including the Headteacher, parents, staff and co-opted members. Each Governor has a role and responsibility.

How does it work?

We meet as a Full Governing Body at least seven times each academic year to develop the whole school, including Early Years. Certain areas for discussion are set by Primitas Learning Partnership to ensure consistency, however the discussions we have are bespoke to our school to ensure Highfields Primary Academy continues to develop and move forward. Discussions include: pupil progress and attainment, SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability), staffing (teaching and non-teaching), finance, health and safety, whole-school wellbeing, premises, policies, school admissions, curriculum development and parental engagement.
During the academic year Governors also attend presentations, performance and musical evenings and numerous other activities throughout the year.

Who can be a Governor?

We have two Parent Governors who have a child/ren in the school at time of their election. Each parent governor is elected by parents of pupils in the school. Other Governors include people working in education and those in business. The role of Governor is a voluntary commitment which brings the reward of seeing our pupils and staff succeeding as individuals.  The standard term of office for a Governor is 4 years.

Our current Governing Body:

We currently have no Parent Governor vacancies.

We currently have a Co-opted Governor vacancy.
